Vintage 2024 : Navigating erratic weather patterns

After a dry and cold winter, the abundant rains of March recharged the soils, creating ideal conditions for the budding of the vines at the end of the month. In April, a mild and dry climate favored an optimal start for the vines. Starting May 27, regular rains brought climatic instability, conducive to the development of diseases. To address this, we chose to maintain our autumn cover crops, thereby strengthening soil structure and facilitating tractor passage despite persistent humidity. This decision proved crucial during the cool and humid month of June, which, while promoting vine growth, complicated the flowering of Grenache and intensified our fight against downy mildew.

Optimal Harvest Conditions in Summer and Autumn
Summer brought a reprieve with high temperatures at the end of July and early August, moderated by sea breezes and cool nights—ideal conditions for the vines. Harvest began on August 25, a week later than the previous year. The white and rosé grapes exhibited remarkable aromatic intensity and refreshing acidity, with the rosés displaying pale hues and intense aromas, truly reflecting their early maturity and exceptional quality.
In September, the cool and dry climate allowed for a serene harvest for the reds, particularly the Syrah. A beneficial rain of 60 mm on September 22 helped perfect the maturity of Grenache and Mourvèdre, providing the reds with balanced tannins and exceptional aromatic freshness. The alcohol level, slightly lower than that of 2023, recalls the 2020 vintage, appealing for its youth and aging potential.

A Demanding Vintage
The volumes are lower than average, impacted by shatter and downy mildew. At this stage, we are focused on the final stages of blending and aging. Each cuvée is meticulously analyzed to ensure its balance and unique character. The best lots are selected for barrel aging, aimed at further developing their depth and complexity.

2024 Vintage: Regenerative Agriculture this year
In summary, the 2024 vintage was demanding but rewarding, requiring continuous attention and total commitment from our teams to maintain impeccable quality. Although difficult to quantify, regenerative agriculture seems to have strengthened our vineyard against the climatic challenges of spring, offering unique aging potential and depth to this exceptional vintage.
